Learn more about the American Pit Bull Terrier.
Scooby was found on a highway at the end of April, barely able to lift his head or support his own body weight due to starvation, and he was almost hairless from mange. What a difference a month makes! This four-month-old boy is now a happy, healthy and friendly puppy, ready to find his forever home.
We had Scooby DNA tested, and he is 69% American Staffordshire Terrier and 31% American Pit Bull Terrier (basically a mix of two bully breeds). He has an absolutely beautiful blue merle coat (a rare and striking color) and is going to be a handsome adult, likely around 60 pounds. The DNA results also showed that he doesn’t have any of the common genetic problems they test for … telling us that the condition in which he was found was due to sheer neglect. Scooby is a total charmer who is friendly with everyone he meets. He’s a very smart boy who is crate trained, housetrained (but still needs to be supervised since he’s curious about EVERYTHING and is in his puppy teething stage), walks nicely on a leash and knows “sit” and “down.” Scooby is fantastic in the car and loves to go hang out with his foster parents at a winery or brewery where he can meet and greet tons of people. He’s very playful with other animals … he likes to play, play, PLAY! He’s been fostered with other dogs and cats and would do well in a home where the other animals are tolerant of his puppy antics. We think he’d do great with kids above the toddler age (he might be too rambunctious for little ones) and he’d love an active home.
